PROVIDENCE, RI:
The 5th Annual KidsEye International Film Festival will debut in
Providence on Wednesday, August 6. The Festival will run 19 childrens
films representing filmmaking talent from Canada, Germany, Australia, and the
United States. These films were selected from over 68 entries by festival
judges. The 2003 KidsEye film festival will feature an exciting lineup of
live action, animated and documentary films produced by adult and youth
filmmakers. This special youth-oriented festival is produced by the Flickers
Arts Collaborative and is part of the annual Rhode Island International Film
Festival, presented by Brooks Pharmacy, that will take place August 5-10, 2003.
The KidsEye
International Film Festival will be held in Providence at the historic Columbus
Theatre located at 270 Broadway. Screenings will begin at 10am Wednesday,
August 6; Thursday, August 7; and Friday, August 8.
On Wednesday Aug 6th, a
selection of 9 short animation and live action films will be shown to kick off
the festival. On hand will be Student Academy Award winner, Eva Saks who will
screen two recent works. Films to be screened include Confection directed by
Eva Saks (USA); Charlie Primitive directed by Pete Jensen (USA); Colorforms
directed by Eva Saks (USA), two Josh W. Shorts; Josh W. Imagines He Can Fly and
Josh W. Flashlight directed by Johnnie Semerad (USA), Saving Worms directed by
Chris Prouty (USA), plus Sniffer from Australia, Die Schuler from Germany, and
A Little Redemption from the USA
On Thursday Aug 7th, the
festival will continue with the appearance of several filmmakers and will
feature the Festival World premiere of Tough All Over by Rhode Island filmmaker
Keith Brown. Shot in North Kingstown, RI., the film is a coming of age story
featuring over two dozen local students. Mr. Brown will be in attendance. Also
screening will be La Toiletta directed by Dave Goldenberg from the USA, Abbie
Down East directed by Ellen-Alinda Verhoeff, (USA), Breakfast at Lesquerella
lescarir directed by Brian J. Harris (USA), and The Paper Castle directed by
Stephen Unger (USA).
On Friday Aug 8th, the
festival will go out with a bang with a mix of titles including the World
Premiere of work recently completed at the annual KidsEye Summer
Filmmaking Camp. Many of the student participants will be in attendance with
their families. Additionally, screenings include Spencers World of Pets
featuring My Butterflies directed by Max Frankston (USA), Quinn directed by
M.L. MacNamara and Jeff Martin (USA), A Work in Progress directed by Wes Ball
(USA), Princess Castle directed by Boris Ivanov(Canada), and Patchwork Monkey
directed by Susan Bell (USA). The directors of Quinn are also expected to be in
attendance .
